MMO HOLIDAY PROJECT

Every day, there are nearly 700 recruits in the Support Battalions at
the Marine Corps Recruit Depots in San Diego and Parris Island. These
are recruits who have been separated from the regular training
platoons for a variety of reasons-sickness, injury, the need for
additional physical conditioning, and those who are being processed
out of training.

Every year, since its inception, MMO has launched our "MMO Holiday
Project." Our goal is to bring cheer to these special recruits on
Christmas Day and to show them how much we support them and stand
behind their determination to become a United States Marine.

Participation is open to any and all MMO's, but is strictly
voluntary. Because our group is a loosely knit internet group with
no formal organization, donations to the project are not tax
deductible.

Our Holiday Project has 3 parts:

1.) Acquiring and assembling donations of items into handmade patriotic stockings -
one for each of 700 recruits.

2.) Acquiring donations from MMO members and purchasing books listed
on the Commandant's Recommended Reading List for the Support
Battalion reading areas to help the recruits further their training,
mentally, even though they are limited in doing so physically.

3.) Letters, Letters, Letters. MMO Members work with churches and schools
collecting letters that are given to the Recruits on Christmas morning.  Encouraging letters from MMO Members and Celebrities are collected and assembled into scrap books that are available to all recruits throughout the year.

PLEASE NOTE:

Our MMO Holiday Project pertains only to recruits who are in one of
the areas of the Support Battalions. It does not include recruits who
are in regular training platoons as we cannot, nor do we wish to,
interfere with their regular training. Also, please remember that all
of the platoons in the Support Battalions are still training
platoons. As a group, we need to stick to the guidelines of what can
and cannot be included in our Holiday Project in order to be
effective in our encouragement of the recruits and to be welcomed by
those in command.
